I prefer to trade for DVD material but if there's something you need and you have nothing to trade I will provide discs in return for a donation towards the costs of running the TV Talkin' sites and tracking down new and rare films. Please contact me for details.
Introduction

This 'blog' is intended as a resource to support my DVD trading of rare and unreleased film and television recordings of my favourite bands and musicians. At one extreme that's Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen through to the likes of Bjork, Pink Floyd and Hawkwind at the other. If you're interested in a particular artist click on their name on the left menu for relevant posts.

I also maintain a number of web sites which are listed at the top of the panel on the right - there's more information here for the artists covered. These sites will link back to this blog increasingly if the idea works out.

The main blog item is the Trading List which has all the DVDs available. I prefer to trade for other DVDs, but recognising everyone has to start somewhere or may not have the facilities to copy discs, will also trade for other memorabillia, books, official DVDs and even PayPal donations to support the running of the sites and the quest for new material.

Enjoy the site, Stephen

DVD-R
· My DVDs are burnt on quality branded DVD-R discs and are tested before being sent out.
· My source DVDs are Region free - There is a mix of PAL & NTSC  formats though this shouldn't be an issue for most modern players.
· Source quality is variable – a lot of my material is old archive material and not necessarily broadcast standard. I try and provide an indication of quality but many discs I haven't been able to watch completely myself yet!
· DVD trades are generally not supplied with artwork.
· For more information on DVDs, including compatibility tables, have a look at videohelp.com.

Trading
· I’m looking for rare, pro-shot film of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and other artists.
· I’ll also consider trades for audience films for Leonard Cohen and Bjork.
· Please state the quality and format of your material;
· I generally trade 1 for 1 but will go to 2 or 3 for 1 for rare items;
· If your source material is VCD, DVD-/+R or VHS (NTSC or PAL) you can trade for DVD;
· I will digitise VHS video and return tapes and a VCD/DVD in return for keeping a DVD copy myself;
· I will generally send out discs within 48 hours of agreeing a trade;
· Discs go out first-class post with a plastic wallet in a secure padded envelope.

Donations
· As I have most of the mainstream circulating material it is getting harder for collectors to offer material I’m interested in. I don’t want to be unhelpful, but I can’t afford to give this stuff away, nor do I simply want to ‘sell’ it on. The mission of my sites is to celebrate and share the art of the performers, not to make a profit out of it.
· The web sites and the collation of material is an expensive business though, (for me at any rate) so I am prepared to provide VCD/DVDs in return for a donation towards the running costs of the site. All donations go back into funding the domains and web-space and buying material that might otherwise not be available to trade/share.
· I simply do not have the time to provide a B&Ps service – sorry.
· I prefer donations via PayPal but can be flexible.
· If you’re interested in making a donation for a VCD/DVD, contact me for further details.
· Sorry if you think this makes me a bread-head, I’m not (honest!).

Everything is negotiable – please contact me with details of any proposal you might have in mind.

Enjoy the site - I hope you find it useful,

Stephen

View Article  Bob Dylan - The Essential Interviews
Oh no! Another Bob Dylan book - but this is one with a difference - as a collection of major interviews through the years it's mostly Bob himself telling his story, his way - nice complementary title to Chronicles until we get more volumes! Can't put it better than this review from Publishers Weekly: As an interview subject, Bob Dylan is notorious for his unpredictable moods and evasive, impish answers. Yet this priceless collection teems with honest, open, and thoughtful musings from a man described by editor Cott (Dylan; Back to a Shadow in the Night) as a "playful expositor of his munificent and inspiring thought-dreams." Organized chronologically, the interviews illuminate Dylan's changing views of music, life and his career, so readers can watch how a cocksure young man, reluctantly occupying the spotlight ("I'm really not the right person to tramp around the country saving souls," he told Playboy in 1966), remains forever uneasy with his status as he becomes one of the most influential musicians in history ("If I wasn't Bob Dylan, I'd probably think that Bob Dylan has a lot of answers myself," he tells Playboy in 1978). Most notable is Dylan's unwavering conviction in his instincts despite disapproval from other musicians, music critics and fans; after getting booed during his electric debut, he told Nora Ephron "They can boo till the end of time. I know that the music is real, more real than the boos." Those who have been touched by Dylan's songs will find this collection a fascinating window into his one-of-a-kind mind.

Now I'm a 70's Dylan man, having first come across him at Blackbushe in 1978 - my favourite Dylan albums are Desire and Street Legal and the fuss about 'folk' Bob has always passed me by. So I was actually looking forward to this film more than the Scorsese documentary which retrod the familiar "Oh No Dylan's gone electric" years once again. I enjoyed both the Scorsese and this new documentary very much - in fact Joel Gilbert's film is a natural sequel to the Scorses effort and sits very well along side it and the 60's obssessives will learn much from it.
As usual in Gilbert's 'unofficial' documentaries, there is no Dylan endorsement or involvement (no Dylan soundtrack - a cover band and some tunes from the likes of Scarlet Rivera and Ramblin' Jack Elliott fill in - there's even a soundtrack CD available). And whilst that was a limiting factor in those earlier films, it's somehow less of a factor here. Now that maybe because I've got all the films anyway and it was the talking heads I wanted to hear but it worked for me. The real scoop on this DVD is the fact we have some previously unseen Dylan interview film featured. It's the Pat Cosby interview for KDKA TV in 1980 and worth the DVD price alone - though this shouldn't overshadow the contribution from the other players, which shines a light on a generally overlooked period which includes some of Dylan's finest work.
This is a four hour film and a labour of love from Dylan looky-likey Joel Gilbert. If you're at all interested in this period of Dylan's career check this out!
